Celebrating 50 years
of service and
community partnership

IMPACT REPORT 2025-26
FROM OUR CEO
Dear Friends,
Some moments crystallize what KCSARC’s work means. One has stuck with me.
A few months ago, I had the privilege of being with a group of KCSARC Empowered Voices members as they shared their experiences and expertise with policymakers. These survivors spoke with clarity, courage and purpose — not as recipients of services, but as architects of change. Nothing could better exemplify the essence and value of KCSARC’s work.
Throughout our 50-year history, survivors, their families and our community partners have grown to trust and count on KCSARC. But it’s more than support and information. We help create opportunities for survivors to be heard, to be believed and to shape the world around them. We help improve understanding of what survivors need from our communities and systems so that doors are further opened to justice and healing. That is enormous. And it is exactly why your partnership matters.
In 2025, KCSARC served 4,820 survivors of sexual assault and abuse and their family members across King County. Many tell us that support, in whatever form they needed, marked a new beginning. Some were among the 2,400 callers to our 24-hour Resource Line. Some accessed evidence-based therapy and discovered that, in just 16 sessions, their most serious trauma reactions were significantly alleviated. For 2,100 survivors and family members, a KCSARC legal advocate was always in their corner, whether they were weighing whether to report an assault or were years into a court case. Some needed all of the above.
Four in 10 of our clients last year were children or teen survivors; for them, our support of their parent or caregiver was also part of their healing.
And for nearly 600 Latinx survivors — many carrying additional fear and stress over federal immigration enforcement — support came from our bilingual, bicultural advocates and therapists.
Prevention remained a key pillar of our strategy. Five decades in, we see a community steadily changing how it understands sexual violence. Our team trained 5,600 young people and adults — including school professionals — to recognize, respond to and prevent sexual abuse.
One of the clearest signs of that shift is who is asking for education. Increasingly, it is young people themselves, not just parents and teachers. Students want to talk about consent and boundaries. They push back when something doesn’t feel right. They don’t automatically assume the adult in the room knows how to respond. I find this both remarkable and hopeful. KCSARC’s prevention team is welcomed into those spaces as a trusted partner, chosen by the young people we serve. That trust is something we earn every day.
I won’t pretend this year was without difficulty. The funding landscape for sexual assault services has shifted in ways that would have been hard to imagine even a few years ago. What once felt like a growing national commitment to survivors — reflected in stable, reliable government funding — now feels far less certain. We are navigating that reality carefully, drawing on the diversity of our funding model and the generosity of donors like you. This moment reinforces that no single funding stream can be the foundation. Our relationships with individual donors, community partners and foundations are not supplemental — they are essential. This year made that undeniable.
Sitting with that weight, I return to the people who keep this work grounded: a Board member who shared a painful moment of being minimized when she needed to be believed; the young people in our Youth Advisory Council and GSBA’s Queering Consent; the Empowered Voices members who raise their voices to create change; and our staff, who choose this work guided by passion, who bear witness to survivor resilience every day.
Your donation ensures that when someone finally decides to reach out for the very first time, to tell someone what happened, a real person is there. Someone who believes them. Someone who helps them figure out what comes next.
That is what your investment makes possible. Thank you for making it in KCSARC.
With gratitude,

Kate Garvey, CEO
OUR MISSION

To give voice to victims, their families and communities,
to create change in beliefs, attitudes and behaviors
about sexual violence, and
instill courage for people to speak out about sexual assault.
YOUR IMPACT
In 2025, we supported 4,820 survivors and their family members in finding a path forward.
“Connecting with KCSARC was my first step towards reclaiming my shattered life. Surviving sexual violence is uniquely alienating. Compared to other crimes, we are dissected under a microscope of scrutiny. It's easy to drown in despair in the aftermath of daring to share our stories. KCSARC provided a legal advocate, a therapist specializing with survivors, and referrals to legal counsel. I felt clarity while being supported through the most painful moments of my life. It's not the burden of a survivor to carry the weight alone. Community heals, educates, forms culture into larger societal and structural justice.”

24-HOUR RESOURCE LINE
You helped us answer 2,416 calls from survivors, their families and others in the community in need of immediate information, crisis support and connection to services.
EMPOWERING SURVIVORS
TO SPEAK THEIR TRUTH

While every survivor’s experience and needs are unique, many common threads run through survivors’ stories — and listening to them is vital if we hope to stop sexual violence and better meet survivors’ needs.
We’ve supported survivors in speaking out in our community for many years, but we formalized this work more recently as our Empowered Voices program. Over the past year, the program has grown significantly. Its member volunteers — all former KCSARC clients — engage in meaningful education and advocacy throughout our community. Members also gather for quarterly workshops shaped around their interests, creating opportunities for mutual support and recognition.
Over the past year, members of this group have shared their stories in a variety of ways to educate others and create change. In doing so, they show us what resilience looks like.
“KCSARC removes barriers to provide sexual assault survivors with lifesaving services. Their urgency to deliver consistent support and compassion through specialized therapy and legal services creates hope for a better future. I finally feel freedom, peace, and joy, and now I get to pass that on to others.”
– Alexandra, Empowered Voices member

EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES
TO STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE
PREVENTION EDUCATION & OUTREACH
KCSARC’s team trained and advised 5,653 adults and young people in schools, community groups and other settings to better identify, prevent and respond to sexual abuse. Through these in-person trainings and our digital platforms, 73,505 community members found tools and resources to stop sexual violence from happening.
KCSARC has a long history of supporting child and teen survivors, and helping their parents and caregivers understand how best to support their recovery. Supporting a young person in the aftermath of sexual abuse becomes more challenging and urgent when there’s no supportive family involved, such as young people involved in foster care. Because you supported KCSARC, young people who have experienced sexual abuse are more likely to be seen, believed and connected to support.
Your partnership also helped equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to prevent abuse before it happens. Our prevention educators have built a growing record of partnering with schools throughout the region — reaching both young people and the adults responsible for keeping them safe.
This work is shaped, in part, by what students themselves have told us: that they need the adults around them to be better equipped to respond to and prevent sexual violence. Guided by that insight, your generosity is helping build safer futures for young people, one school community at a time. Read on to learn more.
ACE: Connecting young survivors to immediate support
Nearly half of KCSARC’s clients are children and teens. Trusted adults working in schools are frequently those who first hear a disclosure, and many know the value of connecting that young person to support right away. But we found that too many young survivors have gone unconnected to supportive advocacy until well into a criminal legal process simply because that critical connection step has been overlooked. By the time they hear about advocacy at KCSARC, the young survivor feels confused and isolated, and many disengage entirely.
KCSARC’s new Advocacy, Connection & Engagement (ACE) program is changing that. Through this program, we’re doing significant outreach to schools with one aim: to reach survivors right from the moment of disclosure. Since launching in late 2025, ACE has connected 268 students — including those involved in foster care — with trauma-informed support that helps them find their voice and be heard.

“Without KCSARC, I don't know that I would be alive today. My life felt unlivable and I could not imagine how I could live the rest of my life after I was assaulted. I was skeptical that therapy was going to work, because I had tried other things before and none of them had helped me. My therapist was incredible. She helped me through a very difficult summer, and I don't think I would've been able to leave for college in the fall without her support. A couple years later, I'm in a much better place and I would not be here today if it weren't for KCSARC, and all the incredible people there who have supported me. I'm always going to be thankful for them.”
– Mick, Empowered Voices member
Preventing sexual abuse is possible when everyone is on board
Young people tell us adults aren’t taking sexual abuse seriously enough — so KCSARC is training the adults and empowering youth to lead change themselves.
In the last year, we’ve continued to educate parents, caregivers, and professionals through consultations, workshops, trainings, and podcasts. On the horizon are expanded tools for parents and professionals, including a new film on child sexual abuse. We’re also consulting with Renton School District elementary educators on a much-needed curriculum update for the next school year.
At the same time, youth are stepping up: our Youth Advisory Council has grown from an initial cohort of four two years ago, to 10 students this fall. In Federal Way, Latinx student leaders launched a “Break the Silence” student group to destigmatize mental health and promote healthy relationships in their community. At Highline and Renton high schools, student-led groups are raising awareness about survivor resources — and that awareness has meant more students connecting to help as a result. Our youth partnerships extend to college too, where LGBTQ+ students launched “Queering Consent” through our work with GSBA.

THERAPY
Last year, 373 children, teens and adults participated in trauma-specific, evidence-based therapy at KCSARC.
FAMILY SERVICES
Parents and caregivers of 1,241 young survivors receiving KCSARC services had the support they needed to help their child heal.
“The trauma exiled me from my life; I was banished to a dark and lonely place. KCSARC was a beacon, a shining light that helped guide me on my healing journey. My therapist was an integral part of my recovery, and I couldn't have done it without them.”
– Emilee, Empowered Voices member

LEGAL ADVOCACY
Our legal advocacy team supported and empowered 2,100 survivors to make decisions right for them as they navigated the complex and challenging legal system.
ADVOCACY
Last year, our team of client care specialists responded to and connected 2,100 survivors and their families to specific services at KCSARC and beyond to meet their individual needs.
“The resources and people at KCSARC helped me breathe again after feeling like I was drowning in the pain of trauma. Their empathy, tools, and empowerment were instrumental in my healing. I’ll forever be grateful for the ways they saw me, heard me, validated me, and helped put my broken pieces back together.”

HELPING LATINX SURVIVORS
OVERCOME BARRIERS
DANDO VOZ
(GIVING VOICE)
583 Spanish-speaking clients accessed culturally relevant therapy, advocacy, family services and referrals to additional services specific to their safety and well-being.

KCSARC bilingual Legal Advocate answers “What is your why?” Asegurar que la gente tenga acceso a la información necesaria en momentos difíciles./To ensure that people have access to the information they need during difficult times.
KCSARC’s Dando Voz program has been one of our fastest-growing in recent years. So when we saw fewer survivors and families coming to us than expected in mid-2025, we took notice. One key contributor to the decline: new fear and stress rippling through the Latinx community as federal immigration enforcement policies took hold, making survivors and their families more hesitant to seek help.
We responded by educating our partners and community about the added barriers Latinx survivors were facing in coming forward, like our Impact of federal immigration policies on sexual assault survivors webinar last fall. We also checked in with trusted partners and focused our outreach in places where survivors might need extra encouragement to feel safe — schools and community groups where we’ve built relationships over many years.
That extra effort is paying off. In the first six months of this year, we’re on track to serve at least as many clients from the Latinx community as we did in all of 2024 — with more child sexual abuse victims connected to support. Our team of bilingual, bicultural advocates and therapists continues to ensure survivors get support in the way that helps them heal best.

KCSARC WELCOMES ALL
Note: Not every survivor or family chooses to share information about race, ethnicity, gender or other demographics. But where clients share this information with KCSARC, it helps to inform and improve our work.
Numbers expressed as percentages.
GENDER
Female-identifying survivors comprised 81% of KCSARC clients in 2025. Another 18% identified as male, while survivors who identified as trans or non-binary represented 1% of our clients.
LOCATION
KCSARC supported survivors from every community in King County in 2025, with most from South King County.
RACE
The survivors and families we served in 2025 demonstrate that many communities that have been marginalized and have experienced historical oppression are also disproportionately impacted by sexual violence in King County.
Where racial identities are known, almost 1 in 5 of our clients identify as Black; another 12% as multi-racial.

ETHNICITY
29% of KCSARC’s clients identify as Latinx/Hispanic. Overall, the Hispanic population in King County is 11%.
2025 FINANCIALS
THANK YOU
to our 2025 donors & partners
We are grateful for the partnership of so many individuals, corporations and foundations who share our vision.
Our generous community contributed over $2 million to KCSARC in 2025, nearly one-quarter of our budget. Corporations sponsored our BE LOUD Breakfast and other events, foundations supported programs and operations, and individuals kept our response strong for survivors, their families, schools and other community partners.
Thank you!
INDIVIDUALS
“Thank you for continuing to fight for survivor support, advocacy and youth programs, and the funding to do the same. It’s critical for our community.”
