Introducing the 2025 cohort of the KCSARC Youth Advisory Council (YAC) — a dynamic group of teens from the King County area dedicated to preventing sexual violence.

We asked each member to share what inspired them to join YAC, along with a fun fact to help you get to know them better. Here’s what they had to say:

“I joined YAC because I am passionate about spreading education about important issues such as sexual assault on a wider scale, and I am excited about learning more about the ways I can be an active advocate. A fun fact about me is that I play two instruments, guitar and piano.”

“I joined the KCSARC Youth Advisory Council because I wanted to make a real impact and gain community experience. I’m interested in pursuing a career in the mental health field, and this opportunity lets me help others while learning how to support survivors and promote awareness.”

“I joined YAC to amplify youth voices in preventing sexual violence. KCSARC gives me space to connect with peers and reach more students. Outside of YAC, I enjoy sewing and learning languages. :-)”

A fun fact about me is that I play trombone and aspire to be a professional musician.”

“I joined YAC because I care about raising awareness about sexual assault among young people in my community. I also want to learn how to support and share resources that are available for people who have experienced assault.”

Kenzie, Freshman at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences

“My name is Kenzie, I’m a freshman at SAAS, and in my free time I enjoy playing sports (volleyball, track, swimming, and lifting). I joined KCSARC YAC because I was looking for a way to both work to prevent sexual violence and advocate for others affected by it.”

“I joined YAC because resources for sexual assault recovery, prevention, therapy, and legal support are often under-discussed and over-stigmatized. As a teenager, I see how shame and silence prevent peers from seeking help. I want to make education approachable, normalize conversations, and empower my community to access the support they deserve.”

Simone, Sophomore at Renton High School

“I joined KCSARC YAC to see destigmatized sexual violence within my community and empower my peers to educate themselves about prevention. I want everyone to know recovery is possible and resources are available no matter who you are.”
