2009 Interfaith Symposium
A View From the Balcony: Responsible Leadership when Sex Offenders are Part of Your Faith Community
The Inter-faith Symposium held on January 28th was a huge success! Leadership took a view from the balcony to address the entire issue of sexual violence to their community with the skills and tools necessary to implement change. The Interfaith group created an information filled symposium that provided leaders in faith communities with the knowledge and the professional resources to assist in responsible spiritual leadership. The Inter-faith Symposium focused on:
- Increase the skills of the spiritual leadership
- Support and deepen the practice of compassion
- Strategies to nurture a holistic approach for safety and accountability
Each participant received a packet of educational materials and resources. Were you unable to attend? Download and view materials from the Symposium below:
Brief History of the Inter-Faith Symposium
The first Interfaith Symposium on the sex offender in your faith community was in November of 2002. The collective goal between faith community members, Department of Corrections and King County Sexual Assault Resource Center was to provide leaders in faith communities with the knowledge and the professional resources that would:
- assist in the accountability protocols for a registered sex offender
- supportive assistance for victims
- appropriate strategies for interpersonal safety awareness
- ways to explore options and opportunities for leaders to address responsible prevention efforts for all members of the faith community.
Each year the Inter-faith Group works to create a symposium that will build on the information shared in past efforts in addition to being appropriate for first time participants.
We want to hear from you!
