KCSARC's 2010 Annual Interfaith Symposium

"Ministering to the Victims and Offenders in Your Faith Communities

"Know That You Are Not Alone”

Did you know......
  • There are 20,210 registered sex offenders in Washington State?
  • In 2008 there were 9,021 victims served by community sexual assault programs?

Both are seeking a faith community to belong to....are they in yours?

Have you ever......

  • Comforted someone crying as they shared their story of abuse?
  • Felt unprepared when someone disclosed they are a sex offender?

Learn how to minister to both victims and offenders in your faith community

The 2010 Interfaith Symposium will include a panel of experts, resources and an opportunity to network with colleagues.
Our panel of experts will include: a victim of sexual abuse, a sex offender, service providers for victims, service providers for offenders, and faith community leaders with direct experience of ministering to victims and offenders.

Each participant will receive a packet of educational materials and resources. All meals, snacks and beverages will be provided at no cost to participants thanks to the generosity of the Archdiocese of Seattle.

“We physically open our doors to all, but spiritually to only a few.”

Brief History of the Interfaith Symposium

The first Interfaith Symposium on the sex offender in your faith community was in November of 2002. The goal between faith community members, Department of Corrections and King County Sexual Assault Resource Center was to provide leaders in faith communities with the knowledge and the professional resources that would:

  • assist them in the accountability protocols for a registered sex offender
  • supportive assistance for victims
  • appropriate strategies for interpersonal safety awareness
  • explore options and opportunities for leaders to address responsible prevention efforts for all

Each year the Interfaith Group works to create a symposium that will build on the information shared in past efforts in addition to being appropriate for first time participants

Pre-registration is required for all participants as space is limited.
