KCSARC's Professional Development Series

"Research Updates on the Treatment of Acute and Chronic PTSD"

Friday June 6th, 9:30am - 11:00am

In the recent years, a number of major posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment reviews and reports have emerged, including from the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, the American Psychiatric Association, the Department of Defense/Veterans Administration, and the United Kingdoms' National Institute of Excellence.  We will discuss the status of current knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment of chronic PTSD, highlighting important research findings that bear on clinical practice with trauma survivors.

Lori Zoellner, Ph.D.  Dr. Zoellner is the Director of the University of Washington's Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington.  She is a National Institute of Mental Health-funded investigator whose research and clinical expertise focuses on the prevention and treatment of chronic posttraumatic stress disorder.  Dr. Zoellner has written and published extensively on cognitive-behavioral treatment of survivors of sexual assault and has given many workshops for practitioners on the prevention and treatment of chronic PTSD.

David M. Slagle, Ph.D.  Dr. Slagle received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Wyoming and completed his predoctoral internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Johnson Veteran Affairs Medical Center.  He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress.  His primary professional interests pertain to PTSD and trauma, substance use disorders, and motivational interviewing.
