Therapy
Clinical Assessments
KCSARC utilizes a best-practice model for assessing trauma. Clinicians meet with a client for two sessions, gathering information through clinical interview and standardized measures, to assess the client’s unique experience of trauma. Recommendations for treatment are made upon completion of the assessment.
Individual Therapy
The main goals of treatment are symptom reduction and trauma integration. Some clients may want to avoid the overwhelming feelings that come along with trauma specific treatment however experiencing the negative feelings in the safe environment of the therapy session is the best way to reduce the negative feelings. Specific interventions include empirically supported techniques for treating clients with trauma histories. Because treatment is a focused and structured intervention, clients may complete on average 16-20 sessions. Some individuals participate in fewer sessions, some may participate more. Treatment is flexible and individualized based on client’s needs.
Adults: Individual therapy is provided to adults who have experienced the trauma of sexual assault in adulthood. The therapy provided is trauma specific, but can be related to a recent sexual assault or one that may have occurred in previous years.
Children and Adolescents: Children ages 6-18 who have been sexually and/or physically assaulted may qualify for trauma specific individual therapy. Specialized sexual and/or physical assault treatment benefits the child whose primary issues have arisen due to the trauma of sexual/physical assault. Parents are actively involved in the therapeutic process, including involvement in individual therapy sessions and working with a Parent Educator.
Services for children ages 0-5 begins in our Family Services Program.
Group Therapy
Group Therapy for female adult survivors of child sexual assault is provided 2 times per year. These structured, 13-week closed groups benefit adult women who continue to struggle with issues of past childhood sexual abuse. The group is designed for those who have specific memories of the abuse and can articulate the impact it has had on them throughout the years.
A Healing Celebration! Therapy Groups for Adult Women Survivors of Child Sexual Assault
