Marvin Eckfeldt

Rev. Marvin Eckfeldt retired as Senior Minister of the First Christian Church of Kent after serving that congregation for thirty-three years.  He did his undergraduate work at Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Oregon. Ordained in 1957, he received Bachelor of Divinity and Masters Degree in Religious Education from The Graduate Seminary of Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.  He was awarded the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by NCU in 1986.
 
Mr. Eckfeldt and a group of ministers organized the Kent Food Bank and Community Service Center in 1970.  He helped organize and served as the first Chair of the Human Services Commission for the City of Kent from 1986-1992.  He served as chair of the United Way South King County Operations Council 1991-1994 and was a member of the Board of Seattle-King County United Way, 1991-1994.  Mr. Eckfeldt was a member of the Citizens Committee for locating the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent and became chair of Volunteer Chaplaincy Advisory Group for the Justice Center 1996-1999.  He was named Kent Citizen of the Year in 1985 and 2000.
 
Rev. Eckfeldt has been a member of the KCSARC Board of Directors since 2001 and served as president in 2003-04.
