Interfaith Group and Symposiums

Department of Corrections and King County Sexual Assault Resource Center to provide leaders in faith communities with the knowledge and the professional resources to address

Vision: Interfaith Group believes in working towards justice for the healing for all.

Mission: The Interfaith Group’s mission is to do work in two areas; education and networking.

History: The first Interfaith Symposium on the Sex Offender in your Faith Community was in November of 2002 which was collaboration of Department of Corrections; King County Sexual Assault Resource Center and First Presbyterian Church of Seattle. In 2006, following the 5th Annual Interfaith Symposium, the Interfaith Group was formed. Each year the Interfaith Group works to create a symposium that will build on the information shared in past efforts in addition to being appropriate for first time participants. Our 10th Interfaith Symposium on the sex offender in your faith community was on January 25, 2012.

Education: Interfaith group members are knowledgeable professionals who work in various disciplines of sex offender management and victim advocacy. Their goals are to:

  • Assist in them in the accountability protocols for a registered sex offender.
  • Develop systems of support for victims.
  • Create appropriate strategies for interpersonal safety awareness.

Networking: Interfaith symposiums and group forums are opportunities for family community members and service providers to address concerns regarding the responsible and safe ministry to all faith community members in addition to holding and keeping sex offenders accountable in faith settings. The Interfaith group advocates for policies that keep faith communities safe and encourage people to actively monitor and participate in the oversight of sex offenders in their faith communities.
