Advocacy
KCSARC offers comprehensive services for anyone who has experienced sexual assault recently or in the past, which may include sexual abuse, rape, incest, date rape and acquaintance rape, stalking, sexual exploitation and molestation. KCSARC serves adults, teens and children who are residents of King County, at no cost. KCSARC provides survivors with tools that support their own strengths, encourage them to make their own decisions, and empower them to regain control of their lives through their individual healing process.
Our Family Services program is also available to family, friends or partners who are impacted by the sexual assault of a loved one. There is no fee for KCSARC services to victims/survivors or their related support people.
General Advocacy
When calling KCSARC at 425.226.5062 you can expect to be connected to a Client Care specialist who will provide you with emotional support and assist you in determining your on-going needs. Such services might include medical advocacy, information and referral, legal advocacy, therapy, parent support, or 24 hour support.
Medical Evaluations and Advocacy
KCSARC works in cooperation with Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress which provides forensic medical evaluations. Generally, medical evaluations are performed as requested by police, prosecutors or parents based on the type of abuse that has occurred. Emergency room personnel of King County area Hospitals are prepared to give victims KCSARC's Medical Packet and to immediately connect to KCSARC's Resource Line.
Legal Advocacy
Our pioneering work in collaboration with the King County Prosecutor's Office created our Legal Advocacy program, which is the model for similar programs in counties throughout the United States.
Navigating the legal system can be lengthy and confusing. KCSARC's Legal Advocates help victims of sexual assault and their family members by providing information and support, as well as accompanying victims to interviews and court hearings.
Legal Advocates are available to work with you at any time in the criminal justice process. Your legal advocate will be assigned to work with you throughout. She will be available to answer your questions, provide you with information, and help you navigate the legal system. Our focus is to help the system work more effectively for you and your family. Legal advocacy services are confidential and free of charge.
