Statistics tell us that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually assaulted by age 16.
Sexual assault is
any unwanted sexual contact, either physical or verbal. All forms of
sexual assault are violating and traumatic.
Sexual assault includes:
Rape and attempted rape by an acquaintance, friend, family member, spouse or stranger
Child sexual abuse, molestation, incest, child sexual exploitation.
Sexual harassment in the workplace, school, or on the streets.
Sexually explicit images and/or talk that is unsolicited and unwanted
For an adult, to be defined as assault,
these acts must be committed either by force, threat, surprise or
intimidation, or through use of the victim's mental or physical
helplessness of which the accused was aware or should have been aware.
These acts committed on a child under
the age of 16 are always defined as a crime.
The legal age of consent in
the State of Washington is 16.
