KCSARC works with community groups, organizations and faith communities to develop long-term strategies and policies to address sexual abuse. As victim advocates, we collaborate with communities as they create the solutions that are most effective for their particular situation. Several of these advocacy and prevention groups meet regularly. If you are interested in more information about any of these groups, please email KCSARC's education department.

Inter-faith Group: KCSARC hosts educational and informational meetings for faith community leaders and others interested in enhancing their knowledge and skills related preventing sexual abuse. Meetings provide professional resources and explore options and opportunities for leaders to address responsible prevention efforts within the context of their faith communities. Participants share ideas on how to recognize high-risk behaviors, ways to hold offenders accountable and methods to increase the awareness of all faith community members. Meetings are on the fourth Thursday of each month from 10-12. Download hand-outs from the 6th Annual Interfaith Symposium: Addressing the Sex Offender in Your Community or Safety Starts Here.
Sex Offender Management Team: The Sex Offender Management (SOM) Team of King County is a collaborative group focused on educating citizens as well as developing strategies to address the practical realities of sex offender issues and concerns. The group brings together victim advocates, law enforcement, corrections, prosecution, housing providers and sex offender treatment specialists. Begun in 2001, this collaboration is an example of a proactive approach that gives communities confidence and empowers citizens to keep their communities safe.
Muckleshoot Sexual Assault Task Force: The Sexual Assault Task Force (SATF) was created to bring community and tribal members together to talk about and tackle the larger issues facing the community, including sexual assault, alcohol and drug addiction, domestic violence, and gang-related violence. The SATF was born out of a Community Notification Meeting for a sex offender returning to the reservation. No community members were present at this meeting, and a discussion with tribal police and community service providers ensued about how to get community members to report sexual assault. The SATF meets every fourth Thursday of the month at Muckleshoot and just celebrated its one-year anniversary. The group sponsors a monthly healing circle to give voice to victims and share support among community members. “We’ve needed this forever,” was a comment made by a three-time healing circle participant at the Muckleshoot Healing Circle hosted by the Muckleshoot Sexual Assault Task Force (SATF).
