| how can I help? |
Sexual assault is an issue that impacts us all & there are many ways that you can make a difference.
If you have children, make sure you talk to them about how to stay safe.
- Make sure they know that you will believe them if they tell you something has happened to them.
- Make sure you communicate about small issues, so they will know they can come to you if they have a problem.
- If you see scenes of sexual violence or harassment on television shows or movies, talk to your kids about them.
- Talk about respect and healthy relationships and stereotypes.
- Make sure your children know that they deserve and should demand healthy, caring relationships.
- Teach your children that they have a right to say "NO" if they feel uncomfortable or threatened.
Confront attitudes and beliefs that support sexual assault.
Every year, KCSARC serves over 3,500 assault survivors and their families and over 10,000 people through prevention education programs. Your donation to KCSARC will support the thousands of hours of advocacy, education and therapy that we provide every year.
- Openly disagree with people who blame victims
- Point out that rigid beliefs about gender and sex roles add to the risk of interpersonal violence.
- Actively work towards a community of respect by speaking up when you hear statements that degrade or stereotype others.
- Talk openly about sexual violence. The silence that surrounds the issue protects the perpetrators and shames the survivors.
