What a Wonderful Morning!

KCSARC's 17th Annual "Kids Are Our Business" Breakfast on March 1, 2006 was the largest fundraising event in our HISTORY!  The overwhelming generosity of the breakfast guests and corporate sponsors has raised over $325,000 for KCSARC's essential services for victims and their families.

Thanks to the tireless work of the Breakfast Committee and our Table Captains, over 1,000 people joined us to celebrate the victories of the past year and introduce new friends to KCSARC's critical work.

Margo Myers of KIRO-7 News acted as the emcee for the morning and she kept the breakfast lively and focused.  Her dedication to ending the silence shined through

King County Sheriff Sue Rahr spoke to the value of KCSARC to our entire community and Jeff Brown of Merrill Lynch provided inspiration to get involved and make a difference.

One of the highlights of the morning was a video called "My Name is Adriel". In it, Adriel  discussed her journey from "victim" to "survivor", with the help of her family and KCSARC.  As she says, "I think a survivor is someone who has been a victim but has broken through."

The star of the breakfast was Dawn, an amazing woman who shared her daughter Jessi's triumph over an assault at age five. Dawn was able to convey Jessi's humor, courage and tenacity --from the immediate aftermath of the assault, through the long criminal proceedings that followed, and the family's healing process.  Everyone in the room stood to applaud Dawn, Jessi and their entire family for sharing their inspiring story.

Thank you to the Breakfast Committee and Table Captains!  We couldn't do it without you!

Special thanks to Margo Myers and her colleagues at KIRO-7 News for their generosity.
